1. UC-win/Road Ver.9 Part 2 |
Here we present the latest features of UC-win/Road Ver.9 in addition to the new features that were introduced in the previous newsletter.
The new features of Ver.9 that we introduced previously are as follows:
Improvement of traffic simulation function
-Improved scenario function
-Traffic snapshot function
-ACC/Autonomous driving feature
Improvement of cluster system
-Driving simulator synchronization feature
-Improvement of client settings

Now let's look at the other latest features! |
The function for modeling/placing models has been enhanced |
Model Panel
The "model panel" was developed in order to improve user-friendliness
of the software (Figure 1). One of the reasons for this development is
to put various buttons into one screen. Thanks to this development, all
types of models can now be loaded, edited, or deleted from a single interface
i.e. the "Model panel". Moreover, a model can now be placed on
a terrain with a single click.
The "User tag" feature helps organize models included within
the project. The search engine included in this new feature has the ability
to search models by its type (general model, vehicle, building, etc.),
name, extension (3ds, fbx, 2d tree), and tag, hence model(s) of your interest
can now be found very quickly. For example, a very detailed query such
as "Search for all models that have the word 'Street' included in
their name and also have a tag 'Cheap' and 'Fashion' can now be executed
(Figure 2).

Model Library
"Model Library" function has been implemented in UC-win/Road
Ver.9. The function has been developed so that models can be created faster.
In the older versions, the models (rm, 3ds, fbx) found by your computer
that scans the data folder were first imported to the memory and then created.
In version 9 the models are created automatically without being imported
to the memory, and are tagged according to the name of the folder to which
they belong. Whenever a model needs to be placed or edited, it is first
imported as a whole file. Thanks to this new function, you no longer need
to import models manually one-by-one, saving you enormous amount of time.
Parametric Model Plug-in
Parametric model plug-in enables you to create signs, stairs, escalators,
and fences by inputting its parameters (Figure 3). Properties of each model
can be customized by assigning its parameters on the edit window. In the
case of staircase for example, the width and height of each stair, number
of handrails, texture, etc. can be assigned (Figure 4).
Example of creating a staircase by inputting parameters:
UC-win/Road automatically creates the model for a staircase according to
the images in the stairs folder. The frame where you can assign parameters
(height, width, thickness, color) can be accessed by selecting the staircase
of your interest from the Model Panel (Figure 5). These parameters can
be edited whenever you wish. After you have edited the parameters, you
can create the instance of a model by clicking the part of the terrain
on which you wish to create.

Micro Simulation Player is a plug-in that can record and play the simulation of UC-win/Road as well as the simulation result of the other applications.
Traffic light cycle and the movement of the vehicles and characters can be recorded, therefore, it is possible to record and play a specific type of traffic flow as a simulation within UC-win/Road. It is also possible link micro simulation of traffic flow, architecture management simulation, the result of crowd movement, etc. all together and then play one all-inclusive simulation using 3D models of UC-win/Road. Furthermore, movement objects can now be displayed on areas away from the road and flight path.
With version 9 and the benefits of development of the "Off-road function",
the algorithm to find the terrain and road height has been improved, along
with the height calculation performance in the overall project. Moreover
the process of allowing UC-win/Road to take over the model for surrounding
vehicles has been optimized and the function for sensing the leading vehicle
has been developed. This sensing function allows you to obtain the information
of the speed and position of the vehicle running in front of you (Figure
6)

FBX models with textures with information on transparency level are supported
in version 9. In particular, textures with alpha-channel and transparency
settings are supported. It is possible to make a polygon transparent or
translucent according to the texture's transparency settings (Figure 7).
For textures that do not have information on its transparency level, the
color black can be assigned as transparent color.
Furthermore, advanced lighting has been applied to FBX models. This means
that when the vehicle shines its headlights onto an FBX model or when the
street light shines on an FBX model, it shines, hence visualizing the effect
of light shone onto it (Figure 8).

Trailers can now be driven. Unlike other types of vehicle, trailers need
to have its cab model and trailer model assigned and then controlled as
2 different models that are linked together. Figure 9 shows the "Driving
Simulation" window in which you can select both the cab model and
trailer model. After you have specified the models, you can start driving
the trailer. Trailers can also be assigned to a scenario, in other words
you can now create a scenario in which trailers are driven.

Various new and enhanced features are introduced in UC-win/Road Ver.9. More enhancements are coming your way. Those include vehicle dynamics model (such as effects of over-steering) and the ability to import DWG data. Please keep your eyes open. |
