The Forefront of Civil Engineering & Construction / Architecture / Environmental Engineering
Inviting Dr. Oral Buyukozturk, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which we have a partnership with, we held a special online seminar named “Sustainability of Physical Infrastructures through Innovations in Sensing and Materials” under the theme of The Forefront of Civil engineering & Construction / Architecture / Environmental Engineering. He described sensing, assessment, and materials innovation for infrastructure sustainability against a backdrop of growing sustainability awareness. As a method for building characterization using vision-based sensing to magnify and visualize vibrations from videos, he introduced a case study of the Taipei 101 skyscraper, where the natural period of a building with a vibration control system was accurately detected based on a video that was accidentally taken. In response to a question about the conditions for detecting vibrations from images, he explained that multiple cameras and algorithms are used to ensure stable evaluation.
| Prof. Oral Buyukozturk is studying on mechanics and design/strengthening of structures, prestressed concrete structures, etc. |
