Joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2005. He has been involved in the export strategy for high quality infrastructure, negotiation of WTO rules, green energy policy towards carbon neutrality, etc. He took up his current post in July 2023.
The METI established the "Autonomous Driving Business Study Commission" together with the MLIT and is promoting activities required for the realization of autonomous driving through the collaboration between industries, educational institutions and different administrations to consequently increase the Japanese automobile industry’s competitiveness in the autonomous driving field and contributes to the resolution of social issues such as the reduction of traffic accidents in the world. Mr. Ito introduces METI's current activities such as "the Version7.0 policy toward the realization of autonomous driving" made up by the study commission in April and a new project "RoAD to the L4" towards the realization and spreading of advanced mobility services such as the Level 4 autonomous driving.

He joined the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) in 1993. After working in transport administration and regional development, he took up his current post in July 2023.
The Digital Agency is working on the social implementation of technologies that will lead to the maintenance and improvement of regional mobility services, including autonomous driving, from both a supply and demand perspective. Mr Asayama will present the current status of the initiatives and the future direction.

Social expectations are growing for autonomous driving, such as reducing traffic accidents and traffic jams, solving driver shortages, supporting vulnerable road users, and providing comfortable mobility spaces. Currently, demonstrations and implementations of autonomous driving are underway worldwide, and in addition to in-vehicle sensors such as cameras and radar, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, which exchanges information with surrounding vehicles and roadside infrastructure, is said to play an important role in achieving advanced autonomous driving including merging support, etc. This presentation will introduce the MIC's initiatives to achieve an autonomous driving society from the perspective of communication administration, as well as the international trends.

Marc de Jong has been part of the commercial team behind the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for over 20 seasons. At WRC Promoter GmbH, Marc is responsible for the commercial relationships with the automotive sector (including OEMs and leading suppliers) as well as licensing and business development.
Among specific projects managed by Marc are the development of the new rally events in Japan and the USA, and the publishing of the WRC interactive video games.
Marc has extensive international experience in the car industry, motorsports and broadcasting. He has worked at the highest levels in world rally and other motorsports in projects with major brands and automotive suppliers. Between 2004 and 2010, Marc was part of Energy Efficient Motorsport - a UK government-funded think-tank focussed on promoting the use of sustainable technologies in motorsport.
Marc speaks English, German, French and Dutch, as well as being conversant in Spanish. He has competed as an international rally co-driver, most recently in the five-day electric vehicle challenge through the Alps.

Mr. Waga will talk about the demonstration experiments of "Autonomous driving service based on roadside stations, etc. in the mountainous area", which the MLIT has worked on, and other efforts such as the merging support for autonomous driving trucks to be used on highways, and providing road status information at intersections for autonomous driving services on general roads.

In May 2023, Japan's first Level 4 driverless autonomous transport service has been launched in the city of Eiheiji, Fukui Prefecture. In this lecture, Mr. Hayashi will present initiatives for the realization of autonomous driving including the current state of autonomous driving technology and policies for social implementation.
