New software, system use cases, and R&D are presented every year at the FORUM8 Design Festival 3Days+Eve. In recent years, digital twin and Mtaverse have been rapidly gaining recognition, and full-scale DX is making concrete progress in enterprises, countries, and municipalities, with accelerated development into Web3 and Web4, including cloud, AI, and NFT, in addition to VR and XR. With this, important changes are emerging in new ways of working and corporate activities.

The 18th Design Festival will kick off Day 1 with the 9th Autonomous Driving / Sustainability Conference followed by the 23rd 3D VR Simulation Contest. Various VR simulations and systems and valuable use cases involving the application of Digital Twin and Digital Garden City concepts will be presented. In terms of construction of Metaverse, we are strongly promoting deployment of Metaverse on the WebVR platform “F8VPS” and new technologies and functions will be presented again this year, such as the linkage between Metaverse and the NFT service “F8NFTS”.

In the “Published Literature Presentation” session, with the support of State of the Arts Technologies in Expression Association, the author of each of the newly published books - “Learn Urban Planning in 1 Day”, “Learn about XR and Metaverse in 1 Day”, “Construction DX/Web 4.0 Digital World being Expanded by FORUM8” and “Guidebook for Shade 3D Certification Exam” – will each deliver his presentation, followed by and a networking party to celebrate the release of the new books.

Day 2 will feature a special lecture by Mr. Kunihiro Tanaka, CEO of Sakura Internet Inc. on “The Power of Cloud and AI to Driving Japan's Digitalization”. In addition, the final judging and award ceremony for the 12th Student Cloud Programming World Cup (CPWC) and the 14th Student BIM&VR Design World Cup (VDWC) will be held, where nominated student teams from around the world will compete against each other. The 17th International VR Symposium is also a must-watch.

On Day 3, State of the Art Technologies in Expression Association will present the works nominated for 8th Hagura Award and give awards to the winners. There will also be a special lecture by Professor Fumihiko Imamura from the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University. The 11th National Resilience Design Award Ceremony will be held afterwards, where various technical works that contribute to national resilience and disaster prevention will be presented. There will also be presentations on the latest updates on FORUM8’s FEM analysis solutions, including Engineer's Studio®, Ver. 11 of which is now available.

As in the previous year, we will hold a pre-event festival “Eve” in the Metaverse, a technical tour for invited students and prize winners from around the world as a commemorative event, and a social golf tournament at Camellia Hills to which SPU special users and related parties are invited.

We hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity to learn about FORUM8's software and services, and that this event would help our users and engineers improve their productivity and innovate their companies' management.

    Special Lecture
“The Reality of Compound Disasters including Tsunami, and Efforts to Mitigate Disasters”

Professor and Vice Director, International Research Institute for Disaster Science, Tohoku University (in charge of reconstruction and renewal)

    Prof. Fumihiko Imamura

    Lecture

The Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred on New Year's Day this year and the Great East Japan Earthquake in the past are caused by “compound disasters,” in which various disasters are compounded into a chain of events. This section presents a flowchart of the actual conditions, starting with the strong shaking of an earthquake, followed by landslides, liquefaction, tsunami, fire, and so on. When accompanied by a giant tsunami, the impact and scope of the damage can be enormous. What kind of response and cooperation is needed in response to the Nankai Trough earthquake and earthquake directly under the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as tsunami, which are feared to occur in the future? In this session, he will introduce and discuss the latest disaster mitigation measures.

    Profile

After serving as an associate professor at the Disaster Control Research Center of the Graduate School of Engineering and as a professor at the same institute, he served as the director of the International Research Institute of Disaster Science from 2014 to 2023. His main areas of expertise are tsunami engineering and natural disaster science. In July 2024, he was commended by the City of Sendai for special municipal service.

    Special Panel Discussion

Based on the special lecture by Prof. Fumihiko Imamura, a panel discussion with Chisato Morishita, who is based in Ishinomaki City and is involved in disaster prevention and community development, will be held. They will talk about themes such as resilience, sustainability, and regional development.

Profile of Chisato Morishita - Member of the House of Representatives

Elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in the October 2024 election, Chisato Morishita is based in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture.
