The 3rd Virtual Design World Cup
Virtual Design World Cup "3rd The Student VR & BIM Competition on Cloud"
-Competition
for designing an advanced construction engineering-works on
Cloud, making full use of BIM/CIM and VR ! -
Theme 2013 Sustainable Station Front in Global Metropolis
This is an international design competition for
students to compete amongst each other in designing an
innovative architecture, bridge and city design using
BIM/CIM &VR technologies. Every year students
compete for the top prize which is given to an outstanding
work outlining a predefined theme in the aspect of design,
innovative idea, and creativity. They plan and design
their work based on the theme and then run a
simulation. Their final model will be presented to the judges
in a form of a script for evaluation. To
assist students with the production of their work, we plan to carry
out workshops and seminars. We will also support the
students who will make use of software from now on.
Also you can communicate and collect a lot of
information without having to visit the local area by participating
various workshop reviews through the Web and VR forum ( 3D
cloud BBS ). The script of VR data created by FORUM8's
software and a "Concept poster" (A1 size (lateral) in
PDF format) are required for the final submission and
the judgment is performed on the basis of "VR Cloud
judgment". We would like you to use FORUM8's BIM software and VR
technologies by all means and consider this competition
as an opportunity to create your masterpiece. We
encourage students from different departments majoring
in different field of studies to make a team to work on their model
together to demonstrate that BIM/CIM can be used in
various discipline.

Guideline for applicants |
Theme 2013 : Sustainable Station Front in Global Metropolis
The concept of installing a new train station as part of the
redevelopment project, whose plan is to reorganize the 20
hectare rail yard situated between Shinagawa station and
Tamachi station and to relocate the Yamanote line from the
west side of the yard to the east side (adjacent to the Shinkansen
line), has been announced on air and put into consideration. No
wonder the excitement for a new station whose name has not
been given yet. The 2013 VDWC challenges students to devise a
proposal of a new environmentally friendly urban space,
which will most likely become one of Tokyo's significant
"stopping off points" for people transferring from one transport
mode to another, radiating from a new train station in Tokyo's
harbor district. The VR data of the competition site includes
the Shinagawa Intercity where FORUM8’s head office will be
relocated this July, and the Shinagawa station front.

FORUM8 Co, Ltd.
Tokyo Head Office was moved to Shinagawa INTERCITY as of
July 16, 2013. The office relocation was a way of putting the
head office and annex office together on one
floor, 21st floor of Intercity Building A to be
exact. The relocation was also means of expanding our seminar and
show rooms. Office upgrade is another term we use to
define this relocation because it coincided with
our recent business expansion and we thank all
our valuable users and partners for all your support.
Our UC-1
series products that we released back in 1981 have grown substantially.
This is apparent in the "UC-1 Engineer’s Suite",
which we released this year, with the reinforced
cloud and CIM features. In addition, the demand
for several of our FEM analysis software, most notably our Engineer's
Studio®, has been pushed upwards by the tides of
time in which the need for a great design &
analysis software capable of designing and
analyzing structural performance is increasing at unprecedented rate,
because Engineer's Studio® does these things very
well. The fact that many users are enjoying its
benefits goes to show that Engineer's Studio® is
indeed the answer. UC-win/Road, our state-of-the-art 3D Visual
Interactive Simulation and Modeling software that
we first released in 2000, is now being used not
just in the civil engineering industry but also in driver
research and automobile manufacturing industry just to new a
few of its many applications.
We will be holding the "7th FORUM8 Design Festival 2013-3Days"
in Shinagawa INTERCITY Hall where we will commemorate our head office relocation.
Many exciting events held annually including the 12th 3D VR Simulation
on Cloud, the 14th UC-win/Road Conference, and the 7th Design Conference
are planned for this year's festival as well. We hope you attend this international
conference by all means. |

Virtual Design World Cup
"2nd Student BIM & VR Design Contest on Cloud"
-Compete on cloud for the most advanced architectural and civil engineering
design using BIM and VR!-
Theme 2012
"Sustainable Design of Marine City"
This contest is an international design competition for students to compete
amongst each other in designing innovative architecture, bridge and city
design using BIM&VR.
Every year students compete for the top price which is given to an outstanding
work outlining a predefined theme in the aspect of design, innovative idea,
and creativity. They plan and design their work based on the theme and
then run a simulation. Their final model will be presented to the judges
in a form of a script and evaluated.
To assist with the production, we plan to carry out workshops and seminars.
We will also support the students who will make use of software from now
on. Also you can communicate and collect a lot of information without visiting
local area by the exhibition of various workshop reviews through the Web
and the utilization of VR forum ( 3D cloud BBS ) The script of VR data
is required for the final submission and the judgment is performed on the
basis of "VR Cloud judgment". We would like you to use forum8's
BIM software and VR and think our company as a place which will make your
technology and production developed.

Tasks |
Theme2012: "Sustainable Design of Marine City"
Sometimes you need to go against the tide to seek for a safer dwelling.
Now is the perfect time. To overcome threats from tsunamis and other disasters,
we set the task to explore the possibilities to live on the sea in a safe
and secure sustainable "Marine City". Using Tokyo, Osaka (Kobe)
and Fukuoka as the subject areas, design a proposal for a man-made island
with recreational and residential functionalities in VR.
In a country like Japan, instead of opening up the forests and mountains,
the best solution could be to develop onto the sea. Today, urban areas
are more or less shrinking; therefore we tend to think that developing
onto the sea is a bad thing. In this contest, students must challenge themselves
to justify the development on the sea with the concept called sustainability.
Keeping "biodiversity" as the keyword, aim to create new nature
through artificial islands. Specifically, the issues to consider in the
proposal are how to decide the location and the shape of the island, how
to place roads, how to access the island, its self-sufficiency and the
procurement of electricity, water and other infrastructure.
|
The areas shown in the VR model provided by FORUM8. The examples of main
areas are the following.
Tokyo
Region: Area surrounded by Tokyo Big Site, Tokyo Disney Land, and Makuhari
Messe
Tokyo Sky Tree and tall buildings around Tokyo station can be seen in the
distance and Aqua Line can be seen in the south. |
|
Kobe/Osaka

Universal Studio)
Mt. Rokko and Awaji Island can be seen in the distance. |
|
Hukuoka
Region: Area surrounded by Mt. Mouko, Kyushu University, vicinity of the
Hakata station, Momochi, and Fukuoka Airport
Genkai island, Shiga island and Nokono island are dispersed in the distance. |

Opening greeting of FORUM8 Design Festival 2011-3Days
Firstly, we would like to express our sincere condolences for all those who have been affected by the devastating earthquake occurred on March 11. We sincerely hope that this area will recover and be reconstructed as soon as possible. FORUM8 will hold "Design Festival 2011-3Days". We have faced a number of difficulties from the earthquake disaster this year but we have gradually begun to see positive signs in such difficult conditions. Your continuing support and encouragement have been instrumental in that. In "Design Festival 2011", we plan to hold a variety of events like last year. On Day1, "10th 3D VR Simulation contest on cloud" will be held at Tokyo head office, and each award will be selected. From November 8 to 14, the works can be checked via VR-Cloud(TM) with Internet connection, and the public voting will be conducted. "VR Conference"(12th UC-win/Road Conference, 5th International VR Symposium) will be held on Day2 and "Design Conference" will be held on Day3 at Shinagawa front building. We have invited many lecturers from home and abroad. In addition, we believe that the members of World16 will provide the presentation on the latest VR research in the International VR Symposium. We are also planning a variety of exciting and fulfilling contents including our new product UC-win/Road Ver.6, VR-Cloud(TM) Ver.2 to be released soon, Analysis support services, 3D engineering services, high-performance computing on cloud services, 6K cluster digital signage system, the latest driving simulator, and the book launch/networking party. We look forward to making this exciting event a reality and hope that you too are eager to be involved.
